Alexander Platinum Aqua di Vita Grappa

  1. $47
Aroma at the pour is concentrated and grapy; following aeration the bouquet turns intensely pumice-like yet clean and fresh. Palate entry is pleasingly spirity, grapy and acidic; at midpalate the ripeness of the pumice emerges as the taste turns sweeter and marshmallow or cotton candy-like. Finishes cleanly, sweet and grapy.  — P.P.  (9/1/2005)

Alexander 2009 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Galilee)

  • Kosher
  1. $36
Aged for 20 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak, this dark and brooding Cab is loaded with woody notes of cigar box, tree bark and leathery spice, but they’re balanced by concentrated fruit flavors of black cherry, black currant and plum guts on the palate. Firmly structured with young, gripping tannins and a long finish.  — L.B.  (4/1/2012)

Alexander 2009 Syrah (Galilee)

  • Kosher
  1. $36
Brimming with ripe boysenberry and blueberry compote aromas and complemented by a fudgy chocolate streak, this Syrah is lush and decadent, with good balance and an approachable yet mouth-filling structure. Flecks of black pepper and coffee grinds linger on the medium-length close.  — L.B.  (4/1/2012)

Alexander 2007 The Great Amarolo Dry Red Wine (Israel)

  • Kosher
  1. $75
This is an interesting wine, made from 40% Cab Sauv, 40% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cab Franc and 4% Shiraz and 3% Grenache in the Italian appassimento-style. It’s strong and robust, loaded with dark fruit flavors of blackberry, cherry and plum along with a streak of black currant liqueur and espresso with anisette.  — L.B.  (4/1/2012)

Alexander 2009 Gaston-Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Shiraz (Galilee)

  • Kosher
  1. $36
Fine but gripping tannins provide a solid structure and crushed velvet texture to this wine, which is otherwise loaded with ripe dark cherry, plum and boysenberry fruit flavors. A streak of sweet hickory smoke infuses the nose and mouth, and the finish closes with a light dusting of cocoa powder flavor.  — L.B.  (4/1/2012)

Alexander 2009 Reserve Merlot (Galilee)

  • Online Exclusive
  • Kosher
  1. $36
There’s a high-toned streak to the red fruit core of this wine, with secondary accents of chocolate-milk mix and vanilla extract to keep things from being too sharp. Drink now.  — L.B.  (4/1/2012)

Alexander 1998 Petite Sirah (Monterey)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $23
It’s tough enough to get big reds to ripen in Monterey, and this rainy vintage didn’t help. Not a bad wine, but the green, herbal tannins are tough to get through. It’s helped by a savory, rich finish.  — S.H.  (12/31/2003)

Alexander 2000 Chestnut Hill Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $20
The underlying flavor of the varietal wine is good and pure, with peaches, pears, and tropical fruits, but the winemaking is heavy. Too much oak and lees results in imbalance.  — S.H.  (6/1/2003)
