Pendleton 2004 Reserve Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands)

  1. $35
This is a new winery for me, and it’s produced quite an impressive wine. It’s big, thick, mouth-filling, with creamy pineapple custard and spice flavors and a firm, acidic minerality that is clearly a function of terroir. Impresses not only for power but finesse.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Pendleton Director’s Reserve 2005 20-Year-Old Blended Canadian Whisky

  1. $75
The understated bouquet features earthy scents of wet forest and pine with supplemental aromas of light caramel, honey, and milk coffee. The delicious palate entry is richly sweet; by midpalate the honey character turns more like cream sherry and dates. The finish is toffee sweet and fudge-like.  — P.P.  (11/15/2006)

Pendleton 2004 Lockwood Oaks Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Monterey County)

  1. $38
A bite of green peppercorn sits right next to riper tastes of blackberries, currants and dark bitter chocolate in this wine grown in the far southern Salinas Valley, just north of Paso Robles. Has good structure, with finely meshed, sweet tannins.  — S.H.  (9/1/2007)

Pendleton 2005 Paraiso Vineyards Reserve Chardonnay (Santa Lucia Highlands)

  1. $36
Lots of oak on this fresh, young Chard. It’s a bit too heavy on the char, toast, vanilla, and woodsap, and not enough about the peaches, pears and pineapples.  — S.H.  (12/1/2007)

Pendleton 10 Year Old Blended Canadian Whisky

  1. $26
Whiffs detect mature, oily/buttery scents of almond butter and oleo margarine followed by delicate traces of oak resin, pepper, palm oil and oloroso Sherry. Palate is succulent and honeyed, turning oily in texture and honey/Sherry-like. Aftertaste is long and toffee-like.  — P.P.  (2/1/2004)

Pendleton 2005 Lockwood Oaks Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Monterey County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $38
Not as generous in fruit as the ’04, with minty, green notes, this Cab is dry, with modest cherry-berry flavors. The absence of fruit accentuates the tannins and acids, giving the wine a harsh feeling.  — S.H.  (7/1/2008)
