The full-force bouquet is big, round and chunky, and the palate, as might be expected, is full force, generating a big blast of plum fruit. It’s 60% Cab and 40% Merlot, a nice melange that finishes in tight, streamlined fashion. While there are no gaping holes in this wine, it is a trifle sugary.  — M.S.  (12/15/2002)

Abbey Rock 2001 Chardonnay (South Eastern Australia)

Opens with a big burst of yellow fruit (particularly peach and nectarine) and some cream and oak; this profile rides the wine out through the finish. It’s not a complicated wine, but it’s enjoyable and utterly quaffable, which makes it an ideal choice (given its price and its flavor profile) for large, gotta-please-everyone gatherings. - D.M.  — D.T.  (6/1/2003)

Forward aromas of fresh baked bread, pork and ripe red fruit are accented by salinity, cinnamon and white pepper. The fruit reads very sweet at palate entry, with meatiness and firm acidity throughout. —K.F.  — K.F.  (3/1/2003)
