Albino Rocca 2007 Vigneto Brich Ronchi Nebbiolo (Barbaresco)

Vigneto Brich Ronchi opens with bright and plump fruit tones that recall black currant, cherry and cassis followed by elegant tones of smoke, leather and tobacco. The wine is intense and powerful with a soft, velvety texture backed by structured tannins that give it backbone and staying power. Very nice. A Marc de Grazia selection; various American importers.  — M.L.  (12/1/2010)

This is a lovely vineyard designate Barbaresco that combines fresh flavors of cassis and wild berries with ethereal notes of root beer, licorice and tar. It finishes with smooth, sturdy tannins and will only improve over the next 5–10 years.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)

This vineyard-designate Barbaresco offers a very sweet nose of candied fruit, Christmas spice and nutmeg. There are earthy, mineral notes at the back that give it character and definition and the wine leaves a smooth and supple impression in the mouth. Drink after 2012.  — M.L.  (12/31/2009)

Long and firmly tannic, the only question is whether it has enough fruit. Our money says it does— the hints of black cherries, leather and citrus peel currently walled off by a veil of cedar and tannin should emerge by 2010.  — W.E.  (4/2/2004)

Albino Rocca’s base Barbaresco delivers candy shop aromas of caramel, butterscotch, vanilla cream and white chocolate. It’s a focused and precise wine that would pair well with cream or béchamel-based dishes. The mouthfeel is firm, tight and ends with bitter almond flavors.  — M.L.  (12/31/2009)

From the Alba area of the Langhe in Piedmont, this pretty Barbaresco delivers a thick, dense style with loads of aromatic intensity and personality. The finish is peppered with cherry, cola, cedar and menthol-like nuances.  — M.L.  (9/1/2011)
