Arboleda 2005 Chardonnay (Casablanca Valley)

  • Best Buy
  1. $15
A big-time effort for Arboleda. The wine hits with copious but balanced wood, which creates a strong blast of popcorn on the nose. The mouthfeel is sturdy and intense, with nectarine, honey and toast flavors.  — M.S.  (10/1/2006)

Full, floral, herbal and exuberant, with black fruit aromas and strong earthy, spicy notes. The palate is full, intense and balanced, with toasty, roasted flavors of blackberry, licorice and spiced fig. Saturated, lush and showing off the positives of Carmenère.  — M.S.  (9/1/2011)

Arboleda 2008 Carmenère (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $19
A strong, smoky set of aromas gets this going in the proper direction. There’s also spice, earth, herbal aromas and leather to give it variety. The palate is deep and big, with blackberry, smoked meat and richness. Smooth on the finish, with black olive and additional herbal accents.  — M.S.  (9/1/2010)

Arboleda 1999 Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $20
Very dark colors and meaty, road-tar notes in the nose put you on notice that the wine is big. But more than big, it’s pure, with layers of plum and berry fruit mixed with a peppery, bacon quality. It has an almost late-harvest depth and softness throughout, so the best bet might be to drink it soon.  — M.S.  (3/1/2002)

Arboleda 2000 Merlot (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $20
A certain level of tightness and structure in the nose hides the immensely ripe and clean cherry, plum and toast flavors that come across on the firm, supported palate. With full tannins and noticeable oak, this is a good Merlot in all the departments that matter.  — M.S.  (3/1/2002)

Arboleda 1999 Syrah (Colchagua Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
Full, earthy notes and red berry fruit with leathery accents characterize this medium-weight, well-built wine. The cassis-tobacco profile pleases, there's a grainy texture and the big back end shows firm, full tannins, earth and black plum notes. Should improve over the next two years.  — W.E.  (10/1/2001)

Arboleda 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

  1. $20
This cedary Cab offers lots of flavor and texture for the price. A cigar-box, black olive and cassis nose is very inviting; the sweet berry and tobacco flavors are appealing if not quite as deep and vibrant as the bouquet. Medium-weight and plush, it closes with chocolate-toast notes and dry, even tannins.  — W.E.  (10/1/2001)

Arboleda 2001 Syrah (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $15
Ripe, rich and rubbery, and seemingly just hitting its stride. The nose offers earth, tar and lots of magnetic black fruit. Flavors of plum, blackberry and sugar beet are sweet yet not candied, while the finish deals espresso, mocha and wood dust. A very good Chilean Syrah, but one that should be judged among its Chilean brethren.  — M.S.  (6/1/2004)
