A Meritage blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, this is deep, rich and chewy, without having excessive alcohol. The concentrated flavor of cassis is married to layers of clean earth, graphite and coffee grounds. The tannins are slightly grainy, fully ripe and wreathed in a smoke note, and the length is superb.

Single vineyard, pure varietal, with the focus and tight profile you might expect. Mineral flavors abound—chalk, graphite, and granite— which underscore the bright cranberry and currant fruit. This is a strikingly pure and well-defined Cab Franc.

A gorgeous wine, dense with flavor. Smooth and plummy, it’s loaded with thick streaks of licorice, chocolate, baking spices and coffee liqueur. Long and flowing, it just seduces from the first sip to the last swallow.

A single vineyard, 100% varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, this is deep, dark, dense, chewy and tannic. Yet it still captures some delicate floral aromas as well as smoke and rock and black fruits. You go from flower to fruit to earth and black olive in a rush of full-bodied flavor.

The Klipsun vineyard is known for its power and muscle, and the tannins here are just now beginning to soften up. Winemaker Kristina van Loben Sels has captured the essence of the vineyard’s strengths—tight, focused black cherry and cassis, dark grace notes of tar, gravel and smoke, and those chewy, earthy tannins. The rich mineral streak is evident, the structure…

Tart and bright, with an almost-jammy mix of raspberry and strawberry preserves, this concentrated, fruit-powered Merlot overdelivers for the price. Along with the luscious fruit are darker streaks of iron, coffee grounds and char, all in a classy, well-designed, four-vineyard blend.

This is still a little hard and tight, but shows great ripe red berry fruit and well-balanced tannins. Another Arbor Crest wine with a fine, fragrant bouquet, clean and bursting with fresh fruit scents. It was barrel aged for 20 months in 40% new oak, adding some strength to the tannins and hints of toast to the finish.
