Artadi 2004 Pagos Viejos Tempranillo (Rioja)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $95
Classic in color, and backed by aromatics of lavender, graphite and pure blackberry. This is not overly weighty, as the acidity keeps it pointed and pure. There’s a lot of elegance and balance to this wine; a perfect example of how to blend multiple vineyards into one excellent whole.  — M.S.  (9/1/2007)

Artadi 2002 Pagos Viejos Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $70
A poster child for modern Rioja. Seriously extracted, with saturated blackberry, cola and chocolate aromas. Features excellent texture and a fine, tannic finish. If it could offer anything else, it would be additional complexity and variety. It locks onto that fruit-and-chocolate combination and doesn’t let go.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Artadi 2008 Viñas de Gain Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $30
Tight and edgy but ultimately oaky and generous on the nose, with earth, vanilla, dried cheese and blackberry notes. Feels cushioned and complete, with depth of feel and flavor; tastes of deep berry, mild herbs and finally a toasty wave of coffee and chocolate takes over. Impressive for a 2008; drink now through 2014.  — M.S.  (4/1/2012)

Artadi 2002 Viña El Pisón Tempranillo (Rioja)

  1. $145
Mildly burnt smelling, with whiffs of charred toast and forest fire. Plenty of black cherry, plum and brown sugar comprise the palate, which is also laden with licorice and spice. Numerous merits secure its place in the box seats, but could be too oaky for some folks.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)
