An outstanding Cabernet that shows its pedigreed origin in every respect. The aroma is profound with black currants, flavors deep and concentrated, and tannins as smooth and complex as Napa can produce. This Dr. Crane vineyard has really rocked in recent vintages. Enormously rich and deep, with a fabulous compaction of black currant, dark chocolate, baking spice and cedar flavors. Only the second vintage for this wine, but it joins the top ranks of Cabernet-Syrah blends. Dry, rich, smooth and frankly delicious, it has incredibly complex flavors, of blackberries, violets, coffee, pomegranates, cola, cloves and oak, and a long finish. A terrific wine to drink now and over the next four years.

Tough and gritty in tannins, with a furry astringency, and very dry. Not ready to drink now, but shows its pedigree in the unusually refined blackberry, black currant and dark chocolate fruit flavors that are deep and long lasting in the aftertaste. Feels lush and smooth. Give it a good six years in the cellar and try again.

A classic example of a young, sweetly fruity and very refined Napa Cab that needs some time in the cellar. Polished and lovely, with finely ripe tannins and decadently good flavors of blackberries, black cherries, chocolate, currants and oak. The palate’s enjoyment is interfered with by the astringency. Give it until 2012 to begin to come around.

A low-production blend of various vineyards, this could be the poster child for classic, drink-me Napa Cabernet. It’s dry, smooth but rich in tannins, and enormously flavorful in blackberries, blueberries and currants. Oak, of course, plays a vital role. Upscale and impressive, it’s a fine Cabernet for drinking now and over the next eight years.
