Garnet-ruby hue with slightly browning rim. Savory aromas of cured meat, cola, dried fruit and rum cake upfront, while warm earthy, tobacco and leather tones fill in the rear. Sophisticated and rich, reminiscent of a storied, nostalgic Brunello tradition. Generous, but with a firm, drying feel on the finish.

Here’s a dark and well concentrated Brunello with aromas that recall wild berries and appleskin. The fresh intensity of those aromas suggest slight volatility, but this doesn’t seem to distract too much from the overall picture. In the mouth, the wine is very polished and squeaky clean.

This is a powerful wine, both in terms of alcohol and aromatic intensity. You’ll recognize tones of cherry liqueur, blackberry preserves and Indian spice. It’s soft and sweeter than most other Rosso di Montalcino.

Because of its aromas of cured meat, old leather and dried fruit, this 2008 Brunello seems older than it really is. There’s not much fresh fruit to support the sharp acidity that appears on the finish.
