Barefoot Cellars 1997 Reserve Chardonnay

A very drinkable chardonnay from this well-known producer of bargain priced wines. Clean and not overly manipulated with pleasing pear and spice aromas and flavors. The oak is nicely integrated (a pleasant surprise) and ends with a mildly spicy finish of moderate length.  — M.M.  (6/1/2003)

A brisk, tart white wine that scours the palate with lemony flavors and leaves the throat feeling fresh and clean. The vibrancy of its lines, and the sleek, acidic structure are softened by a very slight residual sugar in the finish.  — S.H.  (1/1/2004)

So good, so refreshing, you can taste the sunshine in every savory sip of this delightful wine. It’s packed with sweet citrus fruits, tangy gooseberry, ripe fig and white pepper flavors, set up against crisp, bright acids. Finishes tart and puckery, preparing the palate for food.  — S.H.  (11/15/2005)

You get a lot of Pinot character in this cool-climate wine, with its brisk acids, light, silky texture and pleasant flavors of cherries, raspberries, cola and spices. Those fruity flavors sink down deep and last a long time.  — S.H.  (11/15/2005)

Nice and dry, with citrus flavors backed up with bright acidity that gets your tastebuds whistling. It’s a wine that calls for goat cheese, grilled veggies, sourdough baguettes, fried chicken, cold cuts and fresh fruit. In other words, a picnic.  — S.H.  (12/22/2011)

A very nice sparkling wine, and a good value at this price. Makes the right moves with its delicate peach, strawberry, baked bread and vanilla aromas, and rich, fruity flavor. A fierce burst of bubbles makes the wine crisp and bubbly in the mouth.  — S.H.  (12/1/2003)
