This wine is living proof that Argentine Malbec can and does age well. Classic in style, it has aromas of leather, tobacco, dill, vanilla and baked berry. It feels alive and kicking, with dry yet sweet berry, spice and vanilla flavors. The finish is long and not the least bit tired; drink now or continue to hold.

This starts out with textbook aromas of red and black fruits that are pure and easy to get into. It shows kick on the palate, with oaky flavors of coffee and chocolate that accent ripe berry and mild herb notes. It’s toasty and spicy on the finish, with a gritty feel.

Scratchy berry aromas settle down with airing, revealing a medium-plus-sized palate, with good freshness and a dark fruit flavor, like black plum, along with fiery spice. It turns dry and peppery on the finish.

This wine starts with rough aromas of black fruit and horseradish before turning earthy and leathery. The mouthfeel is mostly good, with rubbery tannins, and the palate bears flavors of baked red berry and herb. This is not run of the mill; it’s unusual, fruity, hot and wild.

Candied, dark and murky on the nose, then narrow, clampy and tannic in the mouth. Flavors are herbal, while the fruit content is sweet blackberry and black plum. Short and hollow on the finish, which leaves a grapey residue.

Awfully green and scratchy for a $30 “special edition” Malbec. The nose is brambly and rapidly devolves into outright grassy. The palate is narrow and underdeveloped, with reedy, raspy flavors of plum, raspberry and mint. Far from what you’d hope for from a higher-priced wine; 350 cases produced.

Grapey blackberry aromas come across foxy. The palate is wet and high in acidity, leaving a semisour flavor profile with only a few hints of sweetness around the edges. Drying, herbal and salty.
