Early on it displays mild heat and jamminess, but with airing everything settles, and ultimately this old-vines Tempranillo from the lauded winemaker Mariano Garcia excels. The palate is rich, minerally and meaty, with slightly syrupy black fruit flavors, molasses and chocolate. Chewy, tannic and pure on the finish, with hints of herbs and lemon peel. Drink now…
Made by Mariano Garcia, the same winemaker as Mauro, this is the third vintage of the Leda old-vine Tempranillo, and it scores big for its soy, hickory and exotic spice notes. Richness is the wine’s calling card. The palate is a real berry ball, one with blackberry, raspberry and cassis. The smooth finish carries some chalky tannins, but the whole is in fine balance.
A full, ripe and generous Tempranillo, with rich aromas of prune and blackberry offset by balsamic notes and tobacco. It feels lush and smooth, with concentrated flavors of roasted berry, coffee, chocolate and tobacco. Huge and lasting on the finish, has subtle tannins and complexity. Drink now through 2016.
Round up front, although not terribly fragrant. The nose shows only subtle berry and game aromas, with a hint of bacon. Very tannic, with a foundation of bitter chocolate and earth. Tastes good, as it should, but still not the best Leda in terms of depth and mouthfeel.
Big, extracted and clumsy on first blush, with raisin and prune preceding chocolate on the nose. The palate is big and tannic, with chocolate and baked berry flavors. Finishes full, toasty and grabby, with mocha and vanilla. Drink now through 2012.
