This appealing wine's superclean grapefruit-pineapple-herbgrass aromas and flavors really sing. It's 'well-tuned,' to quote a J. S. Bach title, finely balancing its rich/smooth and tangy/angular elements-- something as appealing as Bach. Displays lovely feel and flavor right through the long, herb-tinged finish. Cries out for sea bass, sole, or shell fish.

Everything’s in place as the complex grapefruit, pineapple and tangy-spice nose opens to a full, similarly flavored palate. The feel is ripe and full yet alive with vibrant acidity, the finish long and clean with zesty pepper notes.

Lush, tropical fruit flavors meet a clean, steely edge in this delicious wine from historic producer Boschendal. Intense aromas in the nose and an overall rounded, full character give it presence, but it's still clean and balanced.

This zippy, fresh sip starts with tropical fruit and citrus aromas, followed by balanced citrus and asparagus flavors. All of it dances on a racy acidity. An elegant, world-class white.

Dusty hay, citrus and butter icing stretch from the nose to the palate in lovely layers. The flavors are full and sweet, like cantaloupe rind, but are never cloying, thanks to the spritzy acidity. Finishes dry and faintly chalky with herbs. This is a lightweight and warm style with fine depth. —K.F.

Dark yellow, the color speaks to this wine’s richness. Pithy peach and vanilla waft from the glass, but this wine has plenty of body to stand up to oak, also delivering rich tropical fruit with citrus undertones. Despite the rich flavors, acidity offers a careful balance.

This Shiraz speaks of its terroir, with its savory black pepper, plum and cassis nose and balanced black fruit, spice and cedar flavors. Full of ripe, rich fruit and tied together with an elegant spicy backbone. Pair with grilled meat or go spicy and try Asian or Mexican alongside.

Another strong showing by Boschendahl, the 1999 Sauvignon Blanc offers grapefruit, smoke and melon aromas. The supple palate has a good acid spine, plus apple-vanilla accents—perhaps from the 15% Chardonnay in the blend. Finishes long, with a slight peppery note. Best Buy.
