Cabreo is a bulldozer of a wine with brawny power, solid dimension and hearty aromas of smoked bacon, black ink, tar and chocolate fudge. The blend is 70-30 Sangiovese and Cabernet and the dense concentration achieved with these two grapes is remarkable.
The first aroma off this wine is like a good cigar; it’s pure tobacco with a touch of background plum and berry. Lively, pure and snappy in the mouth, where raspberry, cherry and other red fruits mix with coffee and oak-based toast. Nicely textured for food; a touch zesty and raw by itself. The mix is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet.
La Pietra boasts sunny, golden highlights that make for a bright and attractive appearance. A beautifully dense and creamy mouthfeel is backed by aromas of vanilla cream, apricot and lemon meringue.
Waxy melon and citrus aromas start it off. In the mouth, honeyed apple and nutmeg come on fairly strongly, while the finish has both sugar and spice. Quite full and soft, with a lot of sweetness.
