Cameron Hughes

Cameron Hughes Wine is an American négociant located in San Francisco that produces, imports and distributes wine throughout most major wine growing regions. Cameron Hughes Wine was established in 2004 by wine lover Cameron Hughes and his wife Jessica Kogan. What started as a small venture in 2001 out of the back of their Volvo has turned into one of the larger négociant businesses in the US according to our Cameron Hughes reviews. The mission of Cameron Hughes Wine is to work with producers and winery owners to procure wines that have already been produced as well as wine growers in order to make wine in their particular vineyards. They produce wine over various lines including Zin Your Face, CH Collection, Hughes Wellman and their well-known Lot Series. Our Cameron Hughes ratings indicate the value inherent in their entry level lines of wine however it is their premium Hughes Wellman Cabernet Sauvignon that consistently receives the highest accolades. Cameron Hughes 2006 Lot 146 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $22
A lovely Cabernet, rich and pure and quite frankly delicious. Although it shows those famous mountain tannins, they’re softly refined and entirely drinkable now, letting the blackberry, chocolate, violet and mineral flavors come through.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

For sheer hedonism, this is one of the best Cabs on the market. This classic Napa Cab is dry, complex and a joy to drink now, framed by elegant tannins. A spectacular bargain. Production was 4,000 cases.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Another of Cameron Hughes’ terrific Cabernets at a good price. This wine will easily stand beside Cabs far more expensive, with its dry, crisply complex flavors of blackberries, cherries, currants, anise, mocha and oak.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Cameron Hughes 2005 Lot 47 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $20
This wine has the solid tannins the mountain is known for, and ripe flavors of blackberries, currants, cherries and chocolate, enriched with new oak. At twenty bucks, and with a low production, it’s a stunning value. With real elegance and even ageworthiness, it’s one of the best at its price point available now.  — S.H.  (3/1/2008)

Cameron Hughes 2007 Lot 149 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $22
Give this young Cabernet a good decant before you serve, because it’s a big, brooding wine that needs some air to open up. Right out of the bottle, it’s tannic and dry, and the blackberry and black currant flavors are buried under a blanket of astringency. But it’s quite a good, well-made wine.  — S.H.  (7/1/2010)

Cameron Hughes 2007 Lot 175 Merlot (Napa Valley)

This is an unbelievable price for a Napa Merlot of this quality. The wine is softly tannic, dry and rich, with crisp acidity balancing complex flavors of cherries, currants, herbs, violets and cedar. Taste this against Merlots costing five times as much, and it will acquit itself well.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Cameron Hughes 2009 Lot 246 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $22
A great Cabernet for drinking now with upscale dishes. Production was 2,700 cases, but it’s worth a search. Tastes classy and elegant, with rich blackberry, currant, anise and oak flavors that are dry and complex. For this price, it’s a huge value.  — S.H.  (7/1/2012)
