Canterbury House 1999 Riesling (Waipara)

  1. $13
A full-bodied, slightly heavy style with a thick texture. Smells like warm baked apples, complete with cinnamon and clove accents; tastes similar, picking up some oily-diesely nuances. Despite the heft, finishes a bit short.  — J.C.  (8/1/2002)

Canterbury House 2000 Chardonnay (Waipara)

  1. $17
Crisp green-apple and grass aromas open this lean wine. A softer, almost candied pear and melon note, as well as brisk acidity, shows on the palate. Closes tangy and mineral-tinged, with medium-length.  — M.M.  (12/15/2001)

Canterbury House 2000 Pinot Gris (Waipara)

  1. $14
Smells white peppery and oily—like canola oil. Flavors are honey and diesel oil, but it’s not sweet, just thick and full-bodied. Finishes with some alcoholic warmth and peppery spice.  — J.C.  (8/1/2002)

Canterbury House 2000 Sauvignon Blanc (Waipara)

  1. $14
Cooked green vegetables, particularly mushy peas, dominate the nose and just won’t let go. In the mouth, some fruit tries to fight through that vegetal character, but it’s a mighty struggle. In the end, the bad outweighs the good and the wine suffers for it.  — W.E.  (1/1/2004)

Canterbury House 1999 Pinot Noir (Waipara)

  1. $19
Almost translucent, with a mixed-spice nose that doesn't offer much fruit. It's got some strawberry and rasberry flavors, but it's also slightly sour. Milk chocolate shows up on the finish, which is otherwise overly oaky. Lacks polish.  — M.S.  (12/15/2001)
