In what could prove to be a breakout vintage for Loewen, the Leiwener Klostergarten Kabinett is a star. Heavily mineral on the nose, with some characteristic leesy notes, it then bursts on the palate with concentrated flavors of apple, pear and lime, all underscored by cool minerality. Finishes long and citrusy. Imported by Michael Skurnik Wines.

The vineyard site’s black slate speaks loudly in this wine, blaring forth smoky, mineral notes layered over yellow plums, peaches and citrus fruits. Folds in honey notes on the long, lingering finish. Editors’ Choice. —J.C.
