Castillo de Jumilla 2010 Monastrell (Jumilla)

This begins with a light red-fruit aroma that falls into the cherry-berry vein. It feels bouncy, rubbery and pleasant, with roasted, rubbery berry and savory spice flavors. The finish is light on fruit but good in feel.  — M.S.  (11/1/2012)

Castillo de Jumilla 1999 Reserva Red (Jumilla)

  1. $17
Seems overripe and stewy at first; airing brings it into better form, but there’s still a lot of overt oak sitting on the bouquet. Flavors of raisins, cherries and plums are dark and chewy, while the finish offers vanilla and lively acids. Not dull but clumsy and heavy. Imported by Table 31 Imports.  — M.S.  (10/1/2005)

Castillo de Jumilla 2001 Reserva Red (Jumilla)

  1. $16
From a region where sweet, ripe wines rule, you’re not going to get much from this tangy, tart wine dominated by minty aromas and sharp cranberry and raspberry flavors. It’s choppy and needling.  — M.S.  (12/15/2007)
