Dark, young, and rich, with massive stuffing. A big, exuberant, fruity wine, it has juicy berry fruit flavors. Too big to drink now, the finish is dry and fairly tannic, so it’s best cellared a few years.

Plush and warming, this lovely wine has earthy, dark stone fruit aromas and flavors, and a dollop of smoky oak. It’s bone dry, with lush, intricate but melted tannins, and a very nice structure. Has that elusive quality known as elegance.

Great nose of dark cherries, violets and leather. Lots of rich black-raspberry fruit and tangy peppery accents. Fine balance and structure, though tart, and the tannins are a bit in front now. Should get even better over the next couple of years.

Sweet black cherries, with menthol and herb accents on the nose. Classic Pinot Noir flavors of sour cherries and cola on the palate. Not heavy, but well structured and balanced. Full tannins on the finish. Very promising.

The nose is loaded with stewed plum and roasted tomato. Raspberry, plum and chocolate flavors get a helping hand from fresh herbal notes, while the tail end is all black fruit, bitter chocolate and espresso. A bit of warning: This is sweet stuff, a thoroughly modern California wine. Editors’ Choice.

What’s nice about this wine is the fine line between the rich, ripe berry fruit and the earthy, tree-bark and coffee notes. All Zins should be this balanced. Dry and fairly tannic, but you can easily enjoy it tonight.

From one of the Zin's natural homes, a classic example. Begins with those wildberry aromas called "brambly," with earthy, peppery notes, and drinks richly fruity-spicy. You'll like the dry-as-dust mouthfeel, with it's complex tannins, and long finish. This well-made wine is a perfect match for rich, grilled meats.
