Dense, deep and darkly knit, but not saturated and black like some. The fruit element is all red; cherry, raspberry and apple skins from start to finish. Speaking of the finish, it’s nice and complete, with vanilla and chocolate notes adding a welcome richness. Good acids and overall balance carry it home.

Inky and spicy, with a pretty, aromatic underbelly of blackberry and cassis. Interestingly, the feel is somewhat lean across the palate, but even with that acid-based sharpness, the definition of the red fruit is pure and attractive. It’s a high-wire St. Joe with the full allotment of raspberry snappiness.

Cherry and plum aromas drive the bouquet even if they come across without much oomph. The palate is borderline tangy, yet it stops short of the line labeled “sour” and doesn’t cross it. Thus with food it will do perfectly well. The snap, texture and tang all make for a lively wine, one seemingly prescribed for everyday drinking.
