Made using fruit sourced from a parcel of vines more than 60 years old, this is a dense, dark wine, with herb, dark fig and plum notes. Solid and concentrated, it has a firm texture, and the dusty tannins match well with the ripe fruit. Age for 7–8 years.

A powerful, wood-aged wine, this shows weighty black fruit and a toasty character. It is concentrated and solid, yet it has a soft and rich side as well. The tarry, tannic character needs at least four years to soften.

Ripe, generous, mint-and eucalypt-flavored wine, shot through with dry tannins and minerality, but also showing fine blackberry and dark plum-skin flavors. There is a satisfying tension here between fruit and herbal characters, promising good aging—try it again in five years.

Big and concentrated, this wine’s spice and dark fruit flavors are sustained by solid tannins and acids. It has a rich texture that’s laced with acidity, so give this concentrated wine another 4–5 years.

The Durou family has been at Gaudou since the 18th century, and today Fabrice Durou is the latest in the line to make Cahors on the 86-acre property. This blend of Malbec, Merlot and Tannat is initially juicy, until the firm, solid tannins kick in. It’s still young with blackberry and bold fruit flavors, and young fruit tannins.
