An amazing wine, especially considering that the dominant grape is Carignan; the rest is Syrah. Just shows what old vines can do in the right soil. Rich, thick, complex and noble, it’s filled with grilled meat, white pepper, tobacco, cassis, violets and sage. The depth of flavor is thrilling, the texture splendid. Editors’ Choice. —S.H.

A delightful and complex wine made from the Macabeu grape. It has dry flavors that range from citrus to fig to fennel, and is kind of a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Roussanne. The smooth, velvety texture is great. Best Buy. —S.H.

Primarily Syrah and Grenache, this coppery, orange-colored wine is delicious. It has complex, richly textured flavors of strawberries, peaches, herbs, roasted hazelnuts and vanilla. Hard to imagine a more versatile wine at the table, and an incredible value in something different for a change.

Distinct and utterly delicious, this blend of Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault is a joy. Fruity notes of berries are married to licorice and lavender, and the flavors are pure, rich and penetrating. The wine is dry, but so flavorful. Best Buy. —S.H.

Copper-colored, with faint aromas of rose petals and peach. Very delicate in the mouth, light and silky and dry. The flavor of extremely ripe peaches hits in the middle palate and lasts through the clean finish. A blend of Syrah and Grenache. Best Buy. —S.H.

An enjoyable wine with potent cherry, raspberry and peppery spice flavors with an edge of leather, and a soft, gentle mouthfeel. It’s very dry, and has flavor and texture complexities that make it interesting.

Very pale in color, sort of a coppery onion skin, but the expressive aromas are rich with the perfume of strawberries and cream. In the mouth, impeccably clean and dry, with crisp acids that leave the palate refreshed. A bit thin in strawberry flavor, though.

Slightly confected on the nose, with hints of bubble gum that give way to herbal cherry-berry flavors. This plump, medium-bodied rosé finishes smoothly, making it all to easy to down more than one intended.
