90-92 Barrel sample. Spicy new wood opens a wine that is rather stretched, taut. The opulence of Merlot Pomerol is not there, but it has been replaced by a structured wine. When the wood calms down, this will be serious.
A wine that is dominated by new, spicy wood to the detriment to the fruit. You can feel the fruit, suggesting weight, but not taste it. If this wood calms down, then this could become a rich, velvety wine, but not yet.
86–88. Barrel sample. The generous fruit on this wine is so ripe and juicy, it's almost too much. Tannins and a deep, dry core do give the wine some shape, but the fruit shows excessive ripeness.
