Clos La Chance 1997 Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $24
Aromatically dense, with a nose of spicy black fruits, cumin, Asian spices and dried flowers. Tasty dark-cherry, spicy, cola flavors. Full mouthfeel. Long and complex, with a lovely, rich mouthfilling finish. Excellent integration and structure; gorgeous now and will age.  — W.E.  (10/1/1999)

Clos La Chance 2001 Vanumanutagi Vineyard Chardonnay (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $30
Super-delicious, a mouthful of Chardonnay perfection. Really notable for the pure concentration of its flavors, such as fresh ripe white peach, mango, and spicy fig. Elaborately oaked, but not too much to support the huge fruit. The rich and creamy texture is a delight.  — S.H.  (6/1/2003)

Clos La Chance 2004 Meritage

  1. $50
Juicy and ripe, this Bordeaux blend is an elegant young wine with earthy flavors of blackberries, cherries and new smoky oak. Notable for its exceptional balance, it should hold well through 2012.  — S.H.  (3/1/2008)

Clos La Chance 2004 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $40
I love this Pinot. Just love it. It’s so soft and sensual, so silky and velvety, and so balanced and dry. With a wealth of cola, pomegranate, persimmon, cherry, tea and spicy oak flavors, it’s complex and delicious, a wine that reveals layer after layer.  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Clos La Chance 2007 JoLi Estate Vineyard Meritage

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $50
Ripe and powerful in blackberry, cherry, cassis and sweet oak flavors, with a spicy finish, this blend, which is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, also is potent in tannins. It’s a complex, nuanced wine, but is really too astringent for current consumption. Give it at least six years and try again.  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

Clos La Chance 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  1. $21
From a top Cabernet appellation. Aromas are very closed now, but airing brings out black currant, licorice, cigar box, and smoky oak. Drinks deeply fruity, with ripe flavors of red and black stone fruits and wild berries. Notable for its elegance and also for its silky-soft tannins. A lovely wine that just misses out on greatness.  — S.H.  (7/1/2000)

Clos La Chance 2001 Chardonnay (Santa Cruz Mountains)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $18
A focused, crisp Chard that impresses with finesse rather than size. Comes down on the mineral side, with flavors of peaches and slate and a steely backbone of acidity. Oak is used judiciously, adding nuances of vanilla, smoke and buttercream.  — S.H.  (10/1/2003)
