Codorníu NV Jaume de Codorniú Brut Sparkling (Cava)

  • Online Exclusive
More mature and minerally than most, with some earthy notes as well as a sharp smokiness. Apple, citrus and grapefruit flavors dominate the developed, smooth-textured palate. Nice overall, with good body. A stand-up cava.  — M.S.  (6/1/2005)

Codorníu NV Reserva Raventós Brut Sparkling (Cava)

Ginger ale and Sprite are the first things that come to mind when you give it a sniff. The palate shows ripe and sweet orange, tangerine and pink grapefruit, while the back end is lean and citrusy but far short of complex. Good in a standard way.  — M.S.  (12/15/2007)

Codorníu NV Cuvée Raventos Sparkling (Cava)

  1. $13
You’ll find plenty to like in this bubbly. The aromas are very refined and Champagnesque, with toast, lees, vanilla, spice, charcoal and a waft of citrus. The flavors are similarly of toast and mineral. This is not a fruit-driven wine. It’s a little rough around the edges; the bubbles are scoury, not refined. But the price is great, and it is a good value. Should…  — P.G.  (12/15/2000)

The nose begins with wheat grass and chopped chive before folding in peach, clover and honey. The palate runs toward melon, pear and green herbs, while the finish is dry, crisp and perfectly solid. As a whole, it’s an easy, straightforward, mass-market cava that gets it more right than wrong.  — M.S.  (12/15/2007)

Codorníu NV Brut Rosé Pinot Noir (Cava)

  1. $15
This one takes on an orange tint, and the aromas are akin to chocolate, spice cake and even some baked beans. The palate is quite crisp and healthy, with berry fruit, citrus and length. A good wine with a racy, cleansing feel. It’s not spectacular but it ranks highly among similar competitors.  — M.S.  (12/15/2007)

Codorníu NV Rosé Cava Pinot Noir (Penedès)

  1. $15
Codorníu makes a consistent rosé Cava from Pinot Noir. It’s smoky and spicy, with cured meat aromas and a true earthy Pinot character. Flavors of orange are somewhat linear and monotone, but that one note is a good flavor, and a fresh and clean one as well.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Fairly basic on the nose, where there’s apple cider and a spot of yeasty richness. The palate is easygoing as well, with less than lively bubbles but nice sour apple and citrus flavors. Finishes in an acid-driven fashion, with green apple as the lasting note.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Codorníu NV Anna de Codorniu Brut Rosé Sparkling (Cava)

  1. $15
Colorful and pretty to look at, but a little sweet. The nose has a sweet, maple syrup element along with dry berry fruit aromas. It’s healthy and fresh in the mouth, with citrus, cranberry and raspberry flavors. Simple and nice for easy drinking.  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)
