Cruz Alta 2007 Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $20
Soft and lightly cedary on the nose, with earthy berry fruit aromas. The palate shows good acidity and balance, with ripe cherry, raspberry and cassis flavors. Smooth on the finish, and overall there aren’t any breaks in the fabric.  — M.S.  (8/1/2011)

Cruz Alta 2006 Grand Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $20
A blend of charred oak and violets lead the bouquet, which also offers some floral berry. The palate is lifted, medium-weight and juicy, with boysenberry and cherry flavors. Very nice if you like a floral Malbec with bright berry fruit as opposed to something dark, meaty and oaky.  — M.S.  (7/1/2010)

Cruz Alta 2009 Chairman’s Blend Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah Red (Mendoza)

  1. $20
This wine is smoky, with leather, berry and barbecue aromas that lurk below a veneer of oak. It has a good mouthfeel, with berry, plum and oak flavors. It finishes bold, with a scratchy feel and loads of leftover barrel spice. A blend of 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah.  — M.S.  (2/1/2013)

Cruz Alta 2008 Reserve Bonarda (Mendoza)

  1. $15
Aromas of violets, blackberry and black currant jam are solid, while the palate shows sharper acidity than most Bonardas, and thus a juicy sensation along with flavors of snappy black cherry and boysenberry. Fresh and forward, with a lot of fruit and potency.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Cruz Alta 2006 Chairman's Blend Red (Mendoza)

  1. $17
A bit grapey and jammy on the nose, with a slight hint of bramble and stem. It’s solid in the mouth, with kick and sweet berry fruit flavors. On the finish it falls off some, leaving a mildly candied aftertaste. Not perfect but overall it’s a well-made blend of 85% Malbec with Cab and Syrah filling things out.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

  1. $15
Warm and a touch sweet smelling, with dried spices, brown sugar and roasted plum on the nose. The palate is chunky, a touch viscous and slightly woody, but it also brings full plum and berry flavors along with peppery spice. Finishes with solid cherry at the core and then more spice and pepper.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)

Cruz Alta 2009 Reserve Chardonnay (Mendoza)

  1. $15
A chunky wine with a full, round, sweet, tropical outlook. The nose settles on pineapple chunks, while the creamy palate features flavors of baked yellow apple and melon. Finishes upright, which is better than many. Not sophisticated but still good for Argentina.  — M.S.  (7/1/2010)

Cruz Alta 2008 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $15
Starts with bulky fruit and bacon aromas. The palate is sort of rattled and jagged in terms of feel, while the flavors of baked berry fruit slip toward herbal. All in all, it’s a pleasant, jammy, friendly, easy-to-drink, generic Cabernet.  — M.S.  (7/1/2010)
