Del Rio Vineyards 2010 Viognier (Rogue Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Strong citrus fruit and citrus-rind aromas mix lemon, lime and grapefruit in a sharply-defined, relatively moderate-in-alcohol Viognier. It’s acidic and firm, nicely focused and precise. Overall, it is a very good, food-friendly wine.  — P.G.  (6/1/2012)

Del Rio Vineyards 2005 Merlot (Rogue Valley)

  1. $28
Don’t look for density or any particular varietal focus here, but what you will find is a pleasing, soft, smooth wine with black cherry, licorice, smoke and chocolate. It’s all front-loaded and fruit-driven, but if you want something to enjoy right now, preferably outdoors, with some butterfat in the soft, pliable tannins, this wine will deliver the goods.  — P.G.  (10/1/2008)

Del Rio Vineyards 2005 Claret Red (Rogue Valley)

  1. $35
This is a true Claret, in that the blend includes 41% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Malbec. It is lushly scented with licorice, tobacco, clove, some plastic and dark fruits, especially black cherry. The fruit and indeed the wine itself has been softened to the point of losing its focus; perhaps an effort to subdue the vineyard’s…  — P.G.  (10/1/2008)

Crisp and palate-cleansing, this southern Oregon Pinot Gris shows a nice mix of green berries, tree fruit and even some unripe banana. Good concentration and length, with a finish that invites the next sip immediately.  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Del Rio Vineyards 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rogue Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
As is often the case with Rogue Valley wines, the tannins are dominant and abrasive. But flavors are good, with a mix of graphite, olive, iron filings and coffee grounds—more than pure fruit. The tannins, acids and darker flavors rule, creating a wine with rigid structure and a tight, firm finish.  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Del Rio Vineyards 2008 Estate Reserve Petite Syrah (Rogue Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $48
Petite Syrah (as it is spelled here) is no longer an approved label—Petite Sirah is correct—but this wine takes a good run a capturing the power and pleasure of the grape. Dark and tannic, it brings in plum and a hint of prune, also chocolate and earth, with good balance.  — P.G.  (6/1/2011)

Del Rio Vineyards 2010 Pinot Gris (Rogue Valley)

Sharp scents of rind and perfume seem almost Viognier-like. The bright flavors echo the aromas, with citrus rind, oranges and apples. Nicely focused.  — P.G.  (6/1/2012)
