Earthy, meaty—almost gravylike—aromas are at work on the nose; after a few minutes, the bouquet adopts soy-herbal notes. Medium in the mouth, the palate offers oak, blackberry and powdery flavors. Lots of green herb and oak on the back end.

Rubber, beets and root beer aromas lead into a sharp, cherry filled palate. The wine has a nice enough flavor profile but it’s tight and hard—hard as a rock. The flavors are solid, but it’s too hard to fully enjoy. —M.S.
