Doña Silvina 2007 Reserva Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $69
Big and modern, this has simmering aromas of turned earth, graham cracker, leather, plum and blackberry. It feels megasaturated but well balanced, with hugely ripe black-fruit, chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavors. Warm and nearly Port-like, this is full of toffee and fudge notes on the finish. It’s a flashy, polished, 21st-century red wine.  — M.S.  (10/1/2012)

Doña Silvina 2006 Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $25
Opens with rooty, baked aromas before finding its legs and plenty of ripe, attractive berry fruit. The palate is juicy and solid, with good acidity and nice flavors of wild berry, chocolate and toast. Stylish and very solid. Definitely a food-friendly Malbec.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)

Jammy and dusty smelling, with black fruit notes, a touch of plastic and mild scratchiness. Feels tight and grating, with red-fruit flavors that are snappy and tempered by sweet oak notes. Finishes scratchy and tannic, with berry, pepper and licorice flavors.  — M.S.  (5/1/2012)
