E. & M. Berger 2002 Grüner Veltliner (Kremstal)

  1. $11
It’s difficult to find inexpensive Austrian wines in the United States; importers (somewhat justifiably) seem to think that the demand for Austrian wines is further up-market. So it was refreshing to find this lithesome gem. It’s light and fresh, with a rainwater-mineral aspect to it and a dollop of Grüner character. Fine for a springtime picnic, or as an apéritif.  — M.S.  (11/15/2003)

E. & M. Berger 2000 Zehetnerin Grüner Veltliner (Kremstal)

  1. $14
An easy-drinking GV with the emphasis on grapefruit and white peach flavors accented by peppery spice and minerals. It’s light, clean and crisp, but finishes short. —J.C.  — J.C.  (3/1/2002)
