Estampa 2008 Lacruz Red (Colchagua Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $55
At first it almost smells too Port-like, but then peppery spice enters the picture and it takes off. And while it weighs a ton and shows some aggression, it’s lovable for its pure blackberry and complex spice and chocolate flavors. Long and grabby on the finish, with big tannins. Drink now, or hold through 2020.  — M.S.  (9/1/2012)

Estampa 2009 Gold Carménère-Cabernet Sauvignon-Cabernet Franc-Petit Verdot Red (Colchagua Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $24
This smooth and inviting blend is impressive for the price. With mildly herbal Carmenère-driven aromas of olive and peppery spice, and then a deep and structured palate feel, Gold is golden. Look for a ton of ripe plum and berry flavor touched up by oak, chocolate and pepper accents. On the finish, it’s spicy, peppery, smooth and complete. Drink now–2016.  — M.S.  (6/1/2013)

Estampa 2008 Gold Syrah-Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Malbec Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $24
The bouquet smells warm, earthy, leathery and chock full of dark berry aromas. It’s a voluminous wine with tannic grip but no overt bite. The flavor profile is concentrated and amped up, with cassis, blackberry and molasses flavors that culminate with notes of coconut and buttery oak on the finish. Drink now–2015.  — M.S.  (12/1/2012)

Estampa 2005 Gold Syrah-Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Malbec Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $23
Ripe almost to the point of overdone, but then it draws itself back. The nose is one part baked and one part ripe cassis and blackberry. And the palate is more or less the same thing: cassis, berry, savory roasted flavors and chocolate are all present and accounted for. Finishes with a splash of BBQ and brandied cherry. A big, broad blend of Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot…  — M.S.  (5/1/2009)

Estampa 2010 Reserve Assemblage Cabernet Sauvignon Carménère Petit Verdot Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $19
This Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend comes with a deep, minerally aroma as well as with lush black-fruit, herb and spice notes. The feel is plump and smooth, while the core flavors are of blackberry, tobacco, raw oak and spice. It’s predominantly round and ripe, but there’s more than enough crispness and tannic bite to keep things framed.  — M.S.  (3/1/2013)

Estampa 2004 Gold Assemblage Carménère-Cabernet Sauvignon-Cabernet Franc-Petit Verdot Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $19
Estampa throws the kitchen sink at this blend; the final result is more than solid. The nose centers on dark berries, prune and licorice, while the flavors include meaty black fruit and some acid-based juicy red fruits. The overall feel is comfortable, and the wine is intense and challenging. Drink now through 2009.  — M.S.  (5/1/2008)

With its black-olive aromas touched up by spice and subtle dark fruits, this wine performs at a level beyond its price range. The palate features cola, black cherry and plum, while the finish offers cleansing acids and savory tannins. What a nice, affordable red for a meal off the grill.  — M.S.  (11/15/2006)

Estampa 2006 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon-Carmenere-Petit Verdot Assemblage Red (Colchagua Valley)

  1. $16
Perfectly ripe, with hints of raisin, licorice and blackberry on the nose. So mature and ready that it has sweetness, but it’s natural and offset by a backbone of fine tannins. Cola and chocolate come into play on the finish, while overall it drinks like a sun-drenched but well-made red wine.  — M.S.  (9/1/2009)
