Gets out of the starting blocks with spicy, brambly aromas of black cherry, red pepper flake, coconut and cassis. It feels solid and firm, with spicy, woody and dry flavors of roasted black fruit and pepper. This turns more barrel-influenced on the finish, with cinnamon and nutmeg flavors holding court. Drink now–2016.

The bouquet is stylish and rooty, with black-fruit and chocolate scents leading the charge. It shows good structure, meaning it’s full but not too thick or jammy. Flavors of ripe blackberry and plum are generous and a touch rubbery, while the finish is full and mildly tannic.

Almost everything about this wine is right on the money, from bouquet and flavors to feel and price. The nose is sweet and floral, with deep, alluring berry aromas. The palate offers a fine texture, with pure, layered blackberry, cola and spice flavors. Satisfying on the finish and complete.

Thick and sultry smelling, with aromas of menthol, mint, tobacco, leather and ripe black fruits. Feels good but oaky, with resiny tannins and baked berry and vanilla flavors. Dark, toasty and mellow on the finish. Shows ripeness, balance and lots of oak. Drink now through 2014.

The full-force nose is redolent of lavender, cinnamon, leather and fresh black plums. Similar chewy plum fruit carries the palate, which is undoubtedly more fruity than it is dark. The vivacious finish has full tannins and plenty of verve. This is the type of wine that just flows down the pipe.

Dark and raisiny, and pushing the ripeness meter to the max. This is a dense, sweet, semihot wine with raisin, stewed berry and jammy black cherry flavors. It’s big and broad, more simple than complex, with a raisiny DNA and a boatload of sweetness. Personally, I prefer Cassone’s less expensive, more balanced reserva to this wine.

Cola, root beer and cherry aromas come with controlled heat. The palate is dense and chewy, with pumped-up tannins supporting very ripe-tasting cassis and cooked plum flavors. It’s toasty and spicy on the firm finish.

Different than most, with reduced, rubbery aromas that also bring graphite and olive into play. Very thick and syrupy in the mouth, with low acidity leading to chewy plum and blackberry flavors. Licorice and baked fruit notes control the finish, which is short and chunky. Ready to drink now.
