A touch of mineral and charcoal-based darkness interacts with black currant and berry aromas, while the palate is rich, smoky and dark, with huge berry flavors touched up by cracked black pepper, chocolate and burnt toast. Solid as a rock and covers all the bases of a good Bordeaux-style blend. Drink from 2010 through 2013.

Broad and bullish is this blend of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is rich and granular, with hints of plum, raisin and iodine. It airs out nicely, exposing boysenberry and cassis flavors. And it finishes rock solid, with depth. It’s all here; excellent wine from a mediocre vintage.

Deep berry, cola, mint and leather aromas are classy and not overdone. Feels lush and deep in the mouth, with blatant ripeness and toasty, oaky flavors of cola, coconut and blackberry. Finishes big but not that long or complex. Drink now through 2013; Malbec with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

If you like a dark, saturated wine with a ton of ripeness and richness, then this is it. The color is opaque, the bouquet full of rubber, blackberry and chocolate. It’s intense stuff, with black cherry and cassis flavors preceding a finish dense with bitter notes, licorice and vanilla. Solid to the core. Imported by Tastings Import Company.

Gets going with aromas of molasses, black olive and pencil lead, which accent the rich black fruit that’s prominently on display. Intense in the mouth, where dark plum and black cherry dominate. The mouthfeel is ripe and warm, and the finishing notes of licorice, chocolate and coffee are sturdy and refined. Imported by Tastings Import Company.

This wine needs time to get its legs underneath it. It comes on young and rugged and gamy, but if you let it sit and air out for 20 minutes it turns deeper, riper and much more fruity. And by the time it settles you’re smack dab in the middle of mountain berry and other natural flavors. Will get better with some bottle time.

An oaky, complex wine based on Malbec, Cabernet and Merlot, The Blend shows floral notes unmatched by almost all other Mendoza/Tupungato wines. Violets and rose petals interact with earthy fruit on both the nose and palate. And unlike the masses, this wine doesn’t make its point by pounding away with overextracted fruit. A different breed but well worth it. Only 40…

Calling this big-boned brew potent may be understating things. This is brawny Tupungato Malbec in full armor. Early oak-driven aromas of hard cheese and char support muscular black fruit scents, while the palate is ripe and sweet as it offers blackberry and cassis flavors. Comfortable on the palate and well balanced overall.
