Big and powerful, but nuanced despite its size. It’s a dark, extracted wine, filled with wild cherry, raspberry, currant and sandalwood flavors, as well as exotic notes of forest balsam, grilled mushrooms, tamari and dusty Indian spices. Super-complex, it changes with every sip, and should change interestingly over the next six years. The vineyard is in the…

This is a wonderfully rich, seductive Pinot Noir. It has the lushness and complexity you want in a fine California bottling, with a silky texture and crisp acidity. The flavors are very complex, ranging from raspberry and cherry tart, cola and exotic rosehip tea to sandalwood, finishing with a flourish of spice. Lots of new oak, but it’s perfectly in keeping with…

This Pinot tastes young and undeveloped, but it should go places. Evidence of its youth lies in the big tannins and acids and the way the fruit flavors are so fresh and primary. Although it’s delicious in berries and currants, it just hasn’t pulled together. It’s so balanced it should benefit from 4–5 years in a cellar.

A pretty Pinot, earthy and complex, that’s perfumed with strawberry jam, violets and candied orange. It’s delicate in personality, yet retains plenty of heft and backbone on the palate. Aromatically memorable, pair it with spiced Moroccan lamb in cardamom and cinnamon spices.

Full-bodied, ripe and oaky, with the weight almost of a Rhône red. Shows cherry pie filling, blueberry, sandalwood, black pepper and anise flavors. Delicious, but needs time to soften around the edges. Hold until after 2010.

Tastes and feels rather full and heavy now, like a Grenache, with cherry, licorice, red currant, pepper and oak flavors. The acid-tannin structure is fine, it’s just that idiosyncratic weight. Could develop in 3–5 years.

Shows the challenges of the 2008 vintage, which was alternately cool, hot and rainy in the North Coast. The wine is very dry and quite acidic. While it shows an elegant structure, it’s a bit lacking in richness, and probably is not ageworthy.

Fruity and tart in raspberry and cherry Lifesaver candy, cola and persimmon flavors, this Pinot’s sweetness is further emphasized by the vanilla and caramel from charred oak. It’s not really sweet, but gives that impression. Drink now.
