Gabriel Meffre 2007 Laurus White (Hermitage)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $57
A strong effort from Meffre, the '07 Laurus Hermitage features exotic aromas of honey, ripe peaches and even a bit of black truffle. This full-bodied, opulent example of Hermitage should be consumed in its youth to best enjoy its flamboyant style of honeyed ripeness.  — J.C.  (4/1/2010)

Gabriel Meffre 2007 Laurus White (Condrieu)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $59
Meffre's wines can be a bit variable, but this Condrieu is top shelf, starting from its seductive aromas of honey, apricot and truffle to its lingering, elegant finish. In between, it's lush and mouthcoating without being overblown. Drink now-2012.  — J.C.  (4/1/2010)

Gabriel Meffre 2001 Domaine de Longue Toque Red (Gigondas)

  1. $18
This 44-acre vineyard is situated in the heart of the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail. A blend of 75% Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, it is big, brooding, powerful with young, sweet tannins and solid spicy flavors. The texture is flowing and opulent, but the tannins remain at the end, offering good aging potential.  — R.V.  (3/1/2004)

Gabriel Meffre 2009 Sainte-Catherine Red (Gigondas)

  1. $27
Gigondas is Meffre’s home turf, and this cuvée is impressive, boasting ample weight, rich tannins and massive extraction. It’s dense and dark, combining asphalt, coffee, chocolate and licorice with black cherry preserves. Ultimately it leaves one wondering if it isn’t trying too hard, but it seems worth putting a few bottles away until 2015 and seeing how they turn out.  — J.C.  (7/1/2012)

Gabriel Meffre 2000 Laurus Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

  1. $30
This wine is in the newer style of Châteauneuf, emphasizing elegance rather than power. But the backbone is there, with tarry, violet flavors and dark plum fruits, alongside firm tannins.  — R.V.  (3/1/2004)

Gabriel Meffre 2000 Laurus Syrah (Côte Rôtie)

The pure Syrah flavors certainly gives the wine great power and tannic structure. But there is also great juicy fruit, flavors of blackberries and a touch of spice. It needs time to develop - it will be at its best from 2010.  — R.V.  (2/1/2005)

Gabriel Meffre 2009 Saint-Théodoric Red (Châteauneuf-du-Pape)

  1. $36
A full-bodied wine that shows some warm-vintage effects in its aromas and flavors of stewed prunes, mocha, leather and chocolate. It’s mouthfilling and a bit warm on the finish. Drink now–2017.  — J.C.  (10/1/2012)

Gabriel Meffre 2009 Saint-Barthélémy Red (Vacqueyras)

  1. $22
For a Vacqueyras, this is rather charming and supple, with slightly jammy black-cherry notes balanced by mouth-watering acidity. Hints of leather and anise add a welcome note of complexity. Drink it over the next few years.  — J.C.  (10/1/2012)
