Garcia Figuero 2006 Vendimia Seleccionada Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $69
This is incredibly inviting on the bouquet due to aromas of leather, raisin, tea and mocha. It feels lifted, benefiting from the superb structure and tannins, while the flavors of leathery berry, coffee, toast and chocolate are outstanding. This is pure, deep, elegant and impeccably balanced Tempranillo. Drink now–2018.  — M.S.  (10/1/2012)

Garcia Figuero 2009 Figuero Tinus Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $599
Toasty and black as midnight on the nose, this has mineral-driven, tight-grained oak, with a blackberry aroma that won’t quit. It feels deep, dense and saturated on multiple levels, with black fruit flavors leading the charge, followed by clove and hickory accents. Warm, long and driving on the finish. Drink 2014–2020. Just over 100 cases and magnums made.  — M.S.  (12/31/2012)

Garcia Figuero 2006 Tinto Figuero Noble Red (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $131
A touch doughy on the nose, with prune and blackberry aromas that are neither pushy nor aggressive. The palate is ripe, rich and just forward enough, with blackberry, wild berry, coffee and fudge flavors. Settles nicely on the finish, and overall this wine shows almost all of what’s good about modern Ribera del Duero wines. 250 cases made; drink now through 2015.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Garcia Figuero 2004 Tinto Figuero 12 Crianza Red (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $29
Sometimes less is more, and with Figuero’s wines the shorter the time spent in oak the more amplified the fruit. This crianza, like its sibling from 2005, is textured and totally sound. The nose is plump and intensely fruity, while the palate has a fine but racy feel and flavors of blackberry, plum, chocolate and cola. Long and layered on the finish, and pure…  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)

Garcia Figuero 2004 Figuero Noble Red (Ribera del Duero)

Heavenly blackberry and fudge brownie aromas give this a bouquet that generates a wink and a smile. The mouth is succulent and graced by flavors of black plum, tea, nutmeg and leather. It’s big and robust, but balanced as can be. And even though it spent 21 months in oak, the wood is integrated and shows itself as chocolate and mocha on the smooth, long-fading…  — M.S.  (6/1/2009)

Garcia Figuero 2009 Figuero Noble Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

Rich and voluptuous on the bouquet, this has coconut, ripe blackberry and leather aromas. It feels huge, grabby, tannic and supercharged, with ultradark and chocolaty berry flavors that last long on the finish, where pepper, spice and chocolate flavors sneak into the frame. Drink 2014–2021.  — M.S.  (12/31/2012)

Garcia Figuero 2005 Tinto Figuero 12 Crianza Red (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $29
Youthful on the nose, with aromatic hints of fine aged cheese and leather blended with earthy berry fruit. The palate is firm and tannic, but not hard. And the flavors of sweet berries, black plum and vanilla are hugely appealing. Coffee, berry essence and a certain chewiness define the finish. An excellent wine with regional expression that will be at its best in…  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)

Garcia Figuero 2005 Figuero Noble Red (Ribera del Duero)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $131
Figuero’s top wine is more than fine. The nose begins with meaty, leathery notes and backs them up with spice and ripe fruit. The palate is not flabby or fat; instead it’s racy and features good acidity that pushes raspberry, tea, tobacco and nutmeg flavors. A more agile wine than many from this famed region. Should age well for five to ten years.  — M.S.  (4/1/2009)
