Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2009 Blaufränkisch (Burgenland)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
This is a wood-aged wine that shows structure, dense tannins as well as juicy red fruits. The wood is finely integrated, lending a round texture to go with the dry character of the wine. For aging 4–6 years.  — R.V.  (7/1/2012)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2004 Gabarinza Red (Burgenland)

  1. $60
A beautifully elegant wine, blending three Austrian varieties with Merlot. Gernot Heinrich regards this as his flagship wine, and he has managed to make an impressive wine that keeps its richness and opulence well under control. The overall impression is of fresh cherries, plum skins, some toast flavors and a background of herbs and spice. A wine that should age…  — R.V.  (10/1/2007)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2009 Pannobile Red (Burgenland)

At this stage, the wine shows its wood aging. But with the rich black-currant flavor, the oak will eventually integrate to make a serious, dark-fruited wine. It’s textured, dry and concentrated. This will need aging over five years. Glass stopper.  — R.V.  (7/1/2012)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2007 Altenberg Blaufränkisch (Burgenland)

The wine shows great richness, power and density. Wood aging has smoothed the rough edges and give an intense, firm wine, the tannins finely balanced with the black fruits.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2003 Zweigelt (Burgenland)

  1. $19
One of the better Austrian reds we’ve tried, with mouthwatering aromas of smoke, black cherry, cinnamon and clove. So ripe, it seems slightly creamy-textured on the palate. Very clean, with oak and fruit in nice balance. Fresh and long on the finish, without much tannin. Drink now and over the next few years. Imported by Vin Divino.  — J.C.  (5/1/2005)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2008 Zweigelt (Burgenland)

A structured, dry, firmly tannic wine with great concentration. It has a chunky rich character allied to a ripe, juiciness. Flavors of bitter chocolate add to the plum and damson skin flavor and bite.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

This is a fruity and ripe wine, with delicious, forward flavors of blackberry and sweet plum. It has a mineral texture, with balanced acidity that gives it a very accessible and ripe finish.  — R.V.  (7/1/2012)

Gernot and Heike Heinrich 2003 Salzberg Red (Burgenland)

  1. $88
This 2003, with its hot year provenance, shows lush fruit, chocolate flavors, and a long, superrich spicy aftertaste. What it does miss is acidity, suggesting it is a wine that will age relatively fast. But for those who like denseness and power, this is one to go for.  — R.V.  (10/1/2007)
