The Gustave Lorentz style with its emphasis on pure fruit flavors really shines through with this wine. There is some petrol character, but the main impression is of pure grapefruit flavors, streaked through with acidity, with crisp, green fruits and a great refreshing bone dry aftertaste.

Soft, full, rich and spicy, this is an intense wine, expressing the essence of Pinot Gris. It’s ripe, off-dry, but with a core of dry toast and almond flavors which go with the pear and nutmeg tastes. This is still a young wine – Lorentz advises 10-15 years aging: more realistic would be another 3-4.

Perfumed wine, sweet, exuding superripe fruits, lychee and mango with yellow nectarine acidity. The wine is very rich, a potpourri of exotic flavors and final spice.

A delicious wine that’s now approaching maturity, but it still promises to age for several years. Its crisp flavors of green and white fruits are merging into notes of toast, yeast and herb. It shows a mineral texture and tense acidity.

This is a surprisingly reticent wine, with a forward spicy character that translates into a more elegant, rounded wine. The acidity and firm structure help to texture the lychee flavor. Pair this with food.

Although this Grand Cru vineyard is better known for its Gewurztraminer, its limestone soil makes it equally good for Riesling. Gustave Lorentz has produced a 2001 which is already maturing, with some petrol character. But there are great, clean fresh flavors and a soft, citric character, which suggest it could still develop.

An invitingly perfumed wine, its fruit bursting with citrus intensity. It has bright, very textured and mineral structure offering aging potential. There is a lively, vivid aftertaste.

With its gold color, this looks like an opulent wine—a fact confirmed on the palate. It remains essentially dry; its opulence translated into great swathes of perfumed tropical fruits. It has weight, the sort of wine to go with rich sauces—or even by itself.
