Really nice California Port-style wine, rich and very sweet, soft and complex, and so easy to drink now. It’s a lighter-bodied style, where the tannins don’t get in the way, and the milk chocolate, cassis, root beer, cola, caramel, licorice and spicy vanilla flavors are simply delicious.

. If anything, more concentrated than this winery’s Reserve. It’s hard to imagine denser, more powerful fruit. Explosively berried, yet dry, supple, balanced, and not overly alcoholic. Defines Paso Zin in its lushness, soft tannins and low, polished acidity. —S.H.

Soft and plump as a big baby, and filled with succulent, juicy blobs of blueberries and raspberries, this dry Central Coast wine makes up for the lack of tannic structure with delicious flavors. —S.H.

Petite Sirah is enjoying a comeback, and here’s one reason why. This is a deeply fruity, well oaked, balanced wine. It’s rich and intricately detailed, with a myriad of spicy berry flavors. Combines the light softness of Pinot Noir with Cabernet’s fullness of body to produce a food-worthy wine that’s delicious on its own.

Flavorful and full-bodied, this Syrah with the long name has rich cherry and black raspberry flavors that are balanced with fine tannins. It’s fully dry, with a long finish, and should accompany fancy fare.

Like a good tawny Port, this dessert wine has an attractive aroma of caramelized blackberries, roasted nuts, candied tangerine zest and cola. Turns rich and balanced in the mouth, with brisk acidity that makes the sweetness clean.

This baby wears an amazing youthful purple robe. Blueberry and vanilla hit you hard. Beautiful depth of flavor to the generous fruit, but thankfully it stays dry and balanced. Chewy tannins, if a little soft. A fine example of Paso Robles Zin.

Soft, smooth and elegant in texture, savory in flavor, this Central Coast Cab tastes of cherries, cassis, mocha and licorice. Smoky oak turns up on the finish. Forward enough to drink now, but it should hold for a couple of years.
