The nose has beautiful green olive with fresh vegetables and burnt coffee. Flavors of juicy blackberries and bitter chocolate add to the complexity. This wine has a leaner style that is well put together and delicious.
The Viognier contributes beautiful floral aromatics to this wine, and the Shiraz, plenty of black pepper. The palate surges wtih berries and cherries—taut, fresh and pure. Smooth and firm on the finish. Nicely done.
Full-bodied and youthfully tannic, but quite promising, this wine features a big core of cassis fruit and plenty of oak-derived embellishment. It’s not herbal, but not pruny either, hitting the sweet spot between under- and overripe. Good now, but should hold through at least 2013.
An unusual, enjoyable Shiraz. A mint-and-chocolate peppermint-patty quality pervades the wine, nose to tail, but the quality is an attracive one. Feels steely and linear on the palate, as though oak contributes to the wine's flavor, but not to its texture. Red and black plums, and some toasted oak flavors, persist through the finish.
Kangarilla Road has become a reliable source of high-quality Shiraz, sold at reasonable prices. The 2004 is a soft, full-bodied wine filled with aromas and flavors of chocolate fudge, plums, dried cherries and spice, with a long, lively finish. Drink now.
Spicy cherry aromas lead to similar flavors on the palate—cherries, spice and plums. Finishes a little thick and portlike. Very enjoyable overall. How often do you find a very good Aussie Zin?
It’s round and full-bodied in the mouth, but this wine isn’t just another jammy Australian Cabernet—there’s some structure here, giving a sense of size without excess weight and defining the finish with dusty, fine-textured tannins. The fruit is dense, though, and dark, running the fine line between chocolaty cassis and prune before picking up hints of dates and…
There’s a healthy 8% Viognier in the blend, but this wine doesn’t come across as overtly apricotty. Instead, it delivers big blueberries and blackberries on the nose and hints of plum and cola, with just a hint of raisining. It’s full bodied—almost viscous in texture—balanced by crisp acids on the finish. Drink now-2016.
