Rich and sweet yet without excessive weight, Erbes’ three-star auslese goldkap features beautifully delineated aromas and flavors of dried apricots, ripe peaches and pineapples as well as great minerality and freshness. The finish is virtually endless. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

Dried apricot notes dominate this wine from start to finish, making it a bit one-dimensional. Still, it features impressive sugar-acid balance so despite the sweetness it’s not cloying; finishes long, with lipsmacking notes of honeyed pineapple. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

Right now the aromas are a bit tight—even steely—with just modest hints of apple and lime, but the fruit comes to the fore on the palate, exploding with baked apple and spice flavors, balanced by zippy acids. Best from 2011–2015.

Zesty lime, crisp green apple and slatey minerality all coalesce in this wonderfully crisp, lithe kabinett. There’s a bit of CO2, but that only helps invigorate the crushed-stone finish. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

Smells minty fresh, with sweet apples and pears forming the core of the wine. There’s just enough acidity to balance the wine; although it tastes sweet now, it should firm up in a few years. Tasted twice, this score reflects the better bottle; another showed some volatile acidity and would have rated 82 points. Best Buy. —J.C.

This is a buxom, charming fleshpot of a wine, round and mouthfilling—even a bit fat—but amiable and pleasing. Apple, pear and honey notes are accented by spice, minerals and citrus, with a lusciously peachy finish.

Thick, viscous and sweet, Erbes’ one-star auslese lacks the finesse and racy elegance of the best examples, but still offers sweet flavors of dried pineapple and ripe melon, balanced by hints of petrol. A slightly earthy, bitter note creeps in on the finish. Imported by Chapin Cellars, LLC.

Despite some initially offputting scents of sweaty socks, this is a charming wine. Apple, citrus and petrol mingle easily once the difficult aromas have dissipated to reveal a medium-bodied, off-dry wine. It’s creamy-textured in the mouth, then turns crisp and minerally on the finish.
