A flamboyantly pungent, leafy bouquet is followed by flavors of crushed tomato leaf, green tomato and hints of ripe stone fruit. This is surprisingly richly textured and long for the price, making it a really good value.

Disappointing after the success of last year’s version, Kato’s 2009 is a lightweight Sauvignon Blanc with herbal, bell-peppery component. There’s a tart stridency on the finish that will serve it well with some dishes, less so with others.
