Fully oaked, so the nose deals plenty of coffee and maple. Under that there’s vibrant red-cherry and cassis flavors amid firm tannins. The finish is solid and spicy, with chocolate folded in. Although it is a bit gritty and hard now, each additional month you hold it the hardness will dissipate. Made of 70% Malbec and 30% Bonarda. Imported by 57 Main Street Wine Co.

Big and broad, with a touch of peanut and leather as well as feisty black-fruit aromas. This represents Finca Las Moras’ top effort in La Rioja. It’s 70% Malbec and 30% Bonarda, and the result is a forward blend with tantalizing berry flavors and a juicy, aggressive character. Very satisfying and fairly long on the finish.

Smooth and ripe, with woody aromas of toasted coconut and vanilla. The palate is all black cherry and cassis, while the finish is smooth and easy, with a light wave of mocha at the base. Overall it’s an integrated wine with balance.

Finca Las Moras is getting fancy with this proprietary blend of Malbec and Bonarda, and with good results. The wine offers earthy, heavily wooded aromas in front of generous black cherry and chocolate flavors. It’s a saturated, superripe wine that may miss a beat or two along the tour but has its positives.

Sturdy and solid, with some leather and spice to the nose. Loud and racy on the palate, with some heat and spice on the back side. This is yet another solid, forward wine from Argentina, and for the money you can’t really go wrong.

Sauvignon Blanc is far from being Argentina’s signature grape, so the fact that this one from San Juan province is legitimate, crisp and varietally correct is impressive. Beyond that, the wine delivers true lime, passion fruit and citrus aromas and flavors. Fresh and easy to like.

Nicely put together, with a solid blend of spice, leather and smoked meat vying with juicy berry aromas. The palate is tangy and fresh, with flashy cherry flavors. Finishes strong, with coffee and chocolate. A good wine for the money; recommended for everyday Shiraz.

You don’t see much South American Tannat outside Uruguay, but this one scores points for its dark charcoal and cola nose as well as its deep black cherry and plum flavors. Yes, it’s kind of hard and tannic, but it’s also got some verve and length to it. With meat, it would be worth the gamble.
