Laura Zahtila 2007 Barlow Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Calistoga)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $50
Very dark, rich and dramatic. Massively constructed, with vast reserves of blackberry jam, blackstrap molasses, mocha, smoked meat, mushu plum sauce and sweet, smoky oak. The tannins are big, ripe and astringent. A great Cabernet that clearly needs plenty of time. Drink 2015 and beyond.  — S.H.  (6/1/2011)

Laura Zahtila 2004 Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $55
A wonderfully opulent wine, so succulent and rich, it’s almost decadent. But it stays smooth, polished and dry. The warm vintage yielded perfectly ripe cherry, plum and carob flavors accented by 20 months in 40% new French oak. Fully ready now, and should drink well through 2012.  — S.H.  (12/15/2007)
