A museum release that won’t be on the market, probably, until late 2004, but is worth the wait. It’s elegant, with subdued slate, citrus and bread flour notes; however nice the flavors, the finessed mouthfeel is even more impressive. Juicy lime and crisp acids show through on the finish.

A jam-packed Cabernet that leads the pace among top-quality but still affordable red wines. Berries and more berries constitute the jammy nose. The mouthfeel is full and chocolaty; the tannins are beginning to soften nicely. The piercing curranty fruity is propped up by moderately toasted oak.

Sorry to steal the moniker from the company’s Shiraz, but this is Classic Clare too, offering bold flavors of honey-coated minerals perked up by curls of lime zest. Firmly built and close to dry, you can drink it now for its power and fruit, or hold it up to 10 years or more, if you like your Australian Rieslings with more age on them.

A current release, despite the vintage; these parcels were selected from some set aside for the Classic Clare bottling. Smells just great, with deep, penetrating menthol and dark plum fruit. Sorghum and licorice palate flavors are subtle on the palate and fatten up for a grand finale on the finish.

A new release, despite the vintage, but not available in the U.S. Another Leasingham with a deep, penetrating nose-here, it’s eucalyptus and black pepper. There’s big berry and plum fruit on the front palate, and tobacco and oak on the back. Soft and lush, drinkable now. Quite good.
