Legado Muñoz 2004 Chardonnay (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $13
Soft and smooth, with a bouquet of apples and caramel that’s entirely appealing. This is not a complex Chardonnay, but for this varietal out of central Spain we shouldn’t complain. The palate is balanced and offers good cantaloupe and peach flavors, while the finish is wide and features butterscotch and cinnamon.  — M.S.  (2/1/2007)

  1. $13
Gold as a nugget, with all the full-on toast, butter and nut oil that stems from oak aging. Aromas of baked peach and apricot lead into a heavy but solid palate of Golden Delicious apple, white raisin and vanilla flavors. From a hot vintage; meaning it's ready to go right now or already past its prime.  — M.S.  (2/1/2007)

Legado Muñoz 2008 Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $13
Blackberry and other fruits are presented clearly on the nose, while the rubbery, bouncy palate seems properly tight and balanced. Sweet, stretched-out flavors of black plum and berry are warm and youthful. Good for basic drinking.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Attractive on the nose, with violet, cherry and a bit of candy. Round and satisfying in the mouth, with full berry flavors and mouthcoating tannins. Not all that nuanced or complex, but good in a dense, hit-me sort of way.  — M.S.  (12/15/2006)

Legado Muñoz 2005 Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $10
Smoky, grapey and spicy on the nose. The palate is full and aggressive in a bring-it-on sort of way. It’s a touch heavy and tannic, but it’s also pretty long and toasty on the finish.  — M.S.  (12/15/2006)

Legado Muñoz 2008 Garnacha (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla)

  1. $9
Rubber and plum aromas are accented by cinnamon spice notes on this fuller-sized, somewhat sticky but basic Garnacha. Dark in color and slightly herbal in terms of flavors, with tart cherry and a slightly dilute feel to the finish. Basic but honest.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Jammy aromas mix with grassy green notes in front of a sweet, chunky palate that offers unconvincing, generic berry flavors. Devoid of elegance and character but loaded with heft and baked fruit. A sweet, rudimentary wine.  — M.S.  (10/1/2010)

Big, muscular, chunky and sticky, with a cloying, grabby, chocolaty overtone. The palate is rudimentary in structure, with flavors of blackberry, plum and milk chocolate. Finishes with a slick of fudge and a grabby feel.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)
