Loma Larga 2009 Unfiltered Rapsodia Red (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $40
Until now I’ve found this winery’s offerings to be underwhelming, but this small-production blend is a surprising winner. Hard spice, juniper, olive and compact berry aromas lead to a lifted palate with bright plum, berry, pepper and spice flavors. On the finish, it’s stacked with juicy acidity and herbal berry leftovers. 200 cases made.  — M.S.  (6/1/2013)

Loma Larga 2011 Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $16
This juicy white opens with a blend of citrusy and grassy aromas. The mouthfeel is healthy and round, with good acidic cut. Flavors of lime, Granny Smith apple and green herb are fresh and correct, while the finish is clear and refreshing. Drink now before it begins to fade.  — M.S.  (3/1/2013)

Minerally on the nose but also slightly pickled, with a wet but basic tasting palate that is a touch dilute as it deals grapefruit and lime flavors. Finishes clean, fruity and a bit sweet.  — M.S.  (6/1/2011)

Loma Larga 2009 Chardonnay (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $17
Apple, pear, vanilla and toast aromas come at you strong but in a controlled way. The palate is fairly juicy, with good acidity to temper sweet vanilla, oak, banana and pineapple flavors. Finishes similarly, with vanilla and sweetness balanced by citric acids. Imported by GOS Wines and BMC Imports.  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)

Loma Larga 2008 Rapsodia Red (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $37
Floral smelling but also leafy and rubbery, with an overriding set of cheesy, leathery aromas. It’s crisp, tart and acidic in the mouth, with lean, generic red plum, aged cheese and vanilla flavors. Medium in weight, with choppy crispness to finish. Imported by GOS Wines and BMC Imports.  — M.S.  (4/1/2011)

Pushy barrel aromas make the wine smell like toast on top of applesauce and baking spice. The palate shows modest acidity and some flatness, while the flavors run toward apple, mango and resiny oak. The finish continues to be oaky, showing a tropical flavor and sweetness.  — M.S.  (3/1/2013)

Loma Larga 2008 Syrah (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $30
Hailing from chilly Casablanca, this Syrah shows a soupy, vegetal smelling nose that’s mildly green and earthy. The palate feels pretty good and chunky, but the flavor profile runs green, with an herbal finish.  — M.S.  (7/1/2013)
