Lucien Albrecht Vineyards’ origins date back to 1425 when Romanu Albrecht began growing grapes in the town of Thann within Alsace. The Albrecht family played a major role in the Alsatian wine industry from the 1500s through the 1700s. According to our Lucien Albrecht wine reviews, 8 generations of Albrechts held the esteemed position of Bangard whose job was to watch over the town’s vineyards and harvest. Lucien Albrecht Winery became one of the most important in Alsace when they acquired holdings in 9 villages surrounding Orschwihr and extended the winery with new cellars in the 1800s. Following the phylloxera crises of 1930, Henri Albrecht planted many parcels with Riesling, Tokay and Gewurztraminer vines marking the beginning of grafted vines. Since 1980, Jean Albrecht has assisted his father Lucien in producing the entire line of Lucien Albrecht wines including their popular Cremants d’Alsace. Today, the Lucien Albrecht Estate owns a large part of Pfingstberg Grand Cru Classe which is home to many of the top rated selections in our Lucien Albrecht wine ratings.
