From the makers of Pegasus Bay, this is a dark, plummy Pinot Noir that’s plump and easygoing in the mouth. Hints of leather, chocolate and wintergreen spice it up a little, adding a mouthwatering freshness to the finish. Imported by Meadowbank Estates.

Sort of a second label from Pegasus Bay, Main Divide’s 2005 Riesling is made in a slightly sweet style that recalls some weighty Rheingau spätlesen. Baked apple and clover-blossom honey are perked up by the addition of lime and petrol. Drink now.

Starts with a blast of toasted nut aromas, but also hints of butter and citrus, then adds some lactic notes, Muscat-like spice and vanilla flavors jump into the mix before finishing with flavors of tangerines and roasted coffee. It’s a bit oaky, but attractive nonetheless. Imported by Meadowbank Estates.

Main Divide is a subsidiary label of Pegasus Bay, based in Waipara, but they’ve sourced this fruit from Marlborough. The aromas are attractive and intense, offering woodsmoke and black cherries, but the wine is rather crisp on the palate, finishing with tart, almost tomatoey flavors. Drink up.
