Marqués de Vizhoja 2005 Torre la Moreira Albariño (Rías Baixas)

  1. $19
A single-estate Albariño with clean minerality accenting flowery, grassy aromas. In the mouth, it’sforward and finely chiseled, with pure apple, papaya and saline flavors. Not run of the mill, and for that we like it a lot.  — M.S.  (9/1/2006)

Marqués de Vizhoja 2005 Señor da Folla Verde White (Rías Baixas)

  1. $21
With 30% Loureira and Treixadura added to 70% Albariño, this wine offers sweet pineapple aromas in front of round melon, peach and spice flavors. Rather plump and driving, with a prolonged finish and some distant minerality.  — M.S.  (9/1/2006)

Marqués de Vizhoja 2007 Torre la Moreira Albariño (Rías Baixas)

  1. $17
Delicate aromas of lemon chiffon, green banana and mineral give this the opening you’d want. The palate is ripe and bold, but also limited to green-apple flavors. Healthy in the mouth, with a zesty, correct finish. This wine gets things right while not making a big statement. Imported by Republic National Distributing Co.  — M.S.  (11/15/2008)

Nice and friendly but also a little flatter than in years past. Aromas of lemon blossom, peach and other white fruits are standard, while the palate is less than edgy, with creamy apple, melon and spun sugar flavors. Sweet and solid, but on the softer side. Drink right away. Imported by Republic National Distributing Co..  — M.S.  (10/1/2009)

Wobbly aromas of vanilla wafer and tropical fruit aren’t fully convincing. The palate, however, crackles with a tangy lemon flavor, a vanilla infusion and a chalky- textured finish. Drink this blend of 70% Albariño and 15% each Treixadura and Loureira right away.  — M.S.  (2/1/2013)

Marqués de Vizhoja 2007 Señor da Folla Verde White (Rías Baixas)

  1. $25
Quite leesy and funky, with meaty, oily aromas that are a departure from normal Albariño and are indicative of the 30% Treixadura and Loureiro that beef things up. Perfectly drinkable, and with a decent mouthfeel, but still it lacks the straightforward cleanliness of the really good wines from Galicia. The nose on this Albariño deals tropical fruit and vanilla scents. It feels citrusy, with modest flavors of papaya, peach and white melon. After showing moderate vitality on the palate, the finish softens up and slips into the netherworld. Seems as though it’s beginning to fade.  — M.S.  (2/1/2013)
